About

It was towards the end of college when I figured out that the most enjoyable and insightful learning I ever had done and ever would do, would be from teaching. Shortly afterwards, I realized that one of the best ways to keep learning would be to start blogging. However, it wasn’t until I was at home sitting at my laptop, unemployed and reading about the fall of Bear Stearns did it dawn on me. If I didn’t have time to seriously start blogging now, I never would.

What I believe about Marketing
I look at marketing holistically, where everything integrated and interrelated. I don’t think marketing components can be optimized separately. A change in price often changes the promotions being run, a change in the product can call for a change in distribution and retailers. Everything should work cohesively. Poorly executed, a marketing campaign is a slipshod gadget with weird pieces sticking out of it, held together only by the sheer force of duct tape. Executed properly, it is a seamless and organic entity that entices, excites and even educates consumers. I fear there are too many companies armed with rolls of metallic tape trying to hold their customers hostage.

The boring biographical bit
I am currently exercising my marketing abilities at the internet start-up SlideShare.net, having come from RocketOn.com. I have also had brief (very brief) stints at Jaguar Cars and Fisker Coachbuild (The Fisker team is currently focusing on a joint venture called Fisker Automotive). I graduated Magna Cum Laude from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, though I’ve discovered that it rarely matters out in the real world.

I occassionally write about my blog and how it is evolving. I’m happy to hear from my readers, and you can request that I write on a particular topic.
