Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle Rooms

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Tomorrow we’re holding a Presentation Camp at SlideShare, basically it’s a mini-informal conference about giving presentations. Yes I’m working on Saturday, but there will be some cool people there that I’m actually excited to meet. Plus it’s a startup, just par for the course.

Anyways, while we were doing some of the setup, Rashmi asked me to label our rooms, Room A, Room B, etc. But then she decided, that was too boring. My solution? To use the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. We have four rooms, there are four ninja turtle/ It’s just perfect!

So yes, if you’re coming to PresoCamp the main room is Leonardo, what is usually the Wii room is Rafael, the conference room is Donatello and the room with the minifridge full of beer is Michelangelo. I tried to match personalities too. Hope you enjoy if you come.

This is a ’slide resume’ inspired by the Meet Henry format. In the neverending quest of differentiating yourself on the job hunt, here’s one more tool at your disposal. It can help you on LinkedIn, but you can also add it to your blog, online portfolio or personal website.

Let me know if I detailing why and how the ‘Meet Henry’ format works would be useful to you.

LinkedIn Apps Launched!

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Sorry I’ve been AWOL for a bit. But I’m back to tell you about LinkedIn Apps. It’s really pretty cool, LinkedIn will finally have some cool integrations with some of your other favorite online websites. And you probably guessed, SlideShare is definitely one of them. For some, it’ll be a great way to show off your expertise as you do different speaking engagements. But I think for many more, it’ll be a place to create a slide resume. I’ll be uploading one so you guys can see what it might look like. Until then you can check out this presentation on using LinkedIn:

10 Ways to Use Linkedin

View SlideShare presentation or Upload your own.

The other cool third parties include Amazon.com, Wordpress and SixApart/Typepad.  Amazon lets you make book recommendations throughout your network, and while I do love my business books, they often get recommended by people in a different age group than I. I’m definitely interested in seeing what my peers are reading. The other two let your blog feed be integrated into your LinkedIn profile. My only concern is, well, how much time do people normally spend on LinkedIn? I don’t use my profile too much, and would probably rather bookmark those blogs and read them individually rather on LinkedIn. But then again, the economy down so I’m sure visitors and time on site are up.

What better time for social commentary than total catastrophe?

So the Dow drops 733 points yesterday and I realized, SlideShare is running a contest about the Credit Crisis and I haven’t blogged about it.

Now I know there are a lot of smart business & econ people who can could put together an explanatory slideshow (and you should) but you are definitely allowed to be satirical with it. You get 30 slides and will be judged based on slideshow popularity and well our judges: Mark Cuban, Hal Varian, Paul Kedrosky & Fred Wilson.  And you definitely should. If anyone submits something please let me know!
